Liberty Print Violet.

I know my ‘About me’ talks about me learning to sew but I’ve never really mentioned it much on here. It all started about 3 years ago when I made a few bits and pieces for The Fox and The Polar Bear and after a year or so of making mini costumes (as you do), I decided I should probably actually learn to sew properly.

As I had pretty much no idea what I was doing, I bought this book by Built By Wendy, which is really brilliant for inspiration and getting started. After a lot of trial and error but ever growing enthusiasm bordering on obsession, I have finally reached a point where I feel like I can actually add to my wardrobe, which is excellent news! This has happily coincided with my discovery of Colette patterns and a whole host of brilliant sewing blogs (here, here and here for starters).

I finished the Colette Violet this afternoon (below). I really don’t think there’s anything quite as satisfying as making something from scratch – particularly when you now have a Liberty print blouse which as the fabric was bought in the sale, cost a grand total of £11!

I’m sorry it’s lots of Instagram photos (particularly as they’re all using different filters!) – fingers crossed, the proper camera will get an outing sometime soon.
