I’ll Be Back.

I know it’s been quiet around here the last month or so. I’m afraid it’s going to continue to be for the next month or so. After nearly ten years together, I’m off to Yorkshire to marry my favourite person on Friday and I’m pretty excited. Don’t worry, I’ll be back with all the details and LOTS of photos soon.

Bridesmaid Dresses.

Back when we first got engaged, I thought finding bridesmaid dresses would be pretty easy. I knew I didn’t want anything looking vaguely satiny and “too bridesmaidy” but I just couldn’t find anything that was quite right. Add on to that the fact that each dress was about £200+, and I felt a bit ill every time I thought about them.

Dress 1, Dress 2 and Dress 3.

In the end, I have decided to make them myself. I am currently one and a half down, one and a half to go and after a few false starts and a rather major cutting error, I think I’m getting there! I’m using Butterick B5748 as a bodice and have then drafted a skirt using the wonderful By Hand London’s Elisalex dress as inspiration. To finish them off, I’m using Tilly’s Bow Belt.

Fingers crossed they all fit ok – you’ll have to wait a couple of months to see the final product I’m afraid!

A few months ago I vaguely mentioned making a Moonrise Kingdom Suzy dress. Well, it happened and it was epically good fun.

We’ve been in Scotland for the past few days and so finally got round to using the stunning landscape for shooting our photos. The intention is to include at least one in with our wedding invitations – which do you think we should go for??

Moonrise Kingdom: Raccoon Patch Tutorial

A couple of weeks ago we went to worship at the throne of Wes Anderson. Being a lover of all things fox, bear and woodland related, we have since been on a hunt for scouting equipment as wedding props. Invitations are currently at the forefront of our minds and we have spent quite a lot of time trying things out – particularly as Tom’s parents bought a letterpress the other week which is amazing (and lots more on that will follow)!!

In the meantime, we’ve been making patches. We started with fox and polar bear ones but now I offer you the Moonrise Kingdom racoon patch, as seen on the delectable Ed Norton.

We started by drawing the raccoon shape, but you can download the template we created here. We then used the template to cut out the individual shapes from wool felt and layered them piece by piece, sewing around the outside. We started by using thread that matched the felt but I think they turned out better when it was a bit more hap-hazard.

I’m really pleased with how they’ve come out, now we just need to find a use for them!

If you’re interested, we sourced the felt from The Felt Fairy – they come highly recommended!

It’s Wednesday.

Wedding Wednesday has been done by many a blogger and who am I to buck with tradition? I briefly thought about putting wedding stuff on another blog but I’m already totally pants at keeping this one up to date so I’m afraid it’s all being lumped together.

After being together for over eight and a half years, I thought I’d roughly know what I wanted when Tom and I got married, turns out that when it’s actually real, decisions are a lot harder.

We did know we wanted something woodland-y and then we went to see Moonrise Kingdom. Now we’re just going make everyone dress as scouts. Only joking. Ish…

I am most definitely not joking when I say I am going to make a copy of Suzy’s dress.
